As some of you might already know, Memorial field was the home of the Razorbacks and we are currently working out of a trailer at Brush Park thanks to the generosity of the City of Mount Vernon, but this is not enough. These children need a place that coaches, athletes and parents can congregate and fellowship on any given day. We are now a 501(c)(3) and are anxiously looking for assistance in obtaining grants that will help secure our own home. If anyone has any expertise in this area, we would love to hear from you.
Mount Vernon Youth Football is a chartered member of American Youth Football and USA Football; we play in the Taconic Youth Football and Cheer League under American Youth Football rules. We offer teams from 8u to 13u (3rd grade to 8th grade). Team and league details along with other information can be found on this website. We start our summer workouts in early August, Monday to Friday from 6PM to 8PM each evening at Brush Park. American Youth Football (AYF) mandates that every player must accumulate 10 hours of supervised conditioning practices along with an additional 10 hours of full pad practices before a player can participate in a game situation. This schedule allows most of the players to achieve the required practice hours while accommodating for vacation time or summer activities. If a player does not achieve the required practice time by the first scrimmage or game, they will be prohibited by the league from any game situations until the AYF required time is met. These requirements are based on safety and making sure the players are properly conditioned and ready to play. For those players that are short on conditioning hours at the start of the season, we do our best to work with them to meet the league mandated requirements.Once school begins the teams will typically hold 2-3 practices during the week and games are played on Sunday (anywhere from 9AM to 5PM, depending on the game schedule). The entire season runs August to early November. All Mount Vernon Youth Football coaches are certified by USA Football through the “Heads Up” program, trained and certified by the CDC in concussion awareness.
